Ok, I admit I’ve been to The Rook before. But I’ve not eaten there, so I figure it counts. Now this isn’t just a 40before40 post. Oh no. This is a very special Happy Last Day in Your 30s to a very special person post…yep, you guessed it, to Karinda!

We were supposed to go to Since I Left You. I’ve waxed lyrical about their cheeseburger toasties. We tried to go in December last year. They were closed for a private event. This was our second attempt. They were closed for a private event. What the?! Will it one day be third time lucky?
So we went to The Rook. After the carnage of the Sydney storms yesterday, it was actually a lovely Friday evening in Sydney, to be in a semi rooftop bar on York Street.
Being the day that it was, we started with a cocktail (never mind my food poisoning on Wednesday night). Karinda chose the Strawberry cocktail and I had the Elderflower, both gin based. Both quite delicious.

Then we shared a bottle of Spanish rosé, Conde Valdemar. I’ve not had a Spanish rosé, but it was quite lovely.

Much to our excitement, we discovered mac and cheeseburger balls on the menu. And truffle fries. And lobster san choy bau (that’s what I’m calling it anyway).
Were they amazing? Sadly no. Were they good? Yes, and filling. Were they a match to the cheeseburger toasties, no, no they weren’t. We would have liked a bit more beef, and some pickle in the burger balls.
But the main thing was that it was a lovely girls night out, for a special person celebrating the end of her thirties. As well as six years in Sydney for Karinda. And six years of friendship (never mind the 34 other years or thereabouts we knew each other, ha!). So very happy you moved up here. Thank you for our friendship. Don’t know what I’d do without you.
Happy Last Day in Your 30s. Love you.
Until next time xx
That is beautiful. Very proud of both of you.
