Hello there – it’s been a little while, sorry about that. You see, I injured myself mid-June, and ended up needing surgery. WHAAAT?! Yes, truly. I went to a cheese festival, and next day, BOOM – knee cracked (for anyone that knows knees, I tore the lateral meniscus; it was always going to happen as I had a discoid meniscus). Anyhoo, had my surgery at the end of July, and then, yep, there’s more, I got a blood clot – deep vein thrombosis. YAY. So I’m about three months behind on my 40before40 project. I’ve reconciled myself to possibly not achieving everything, and that’s ok – life happened. What do you do? Insert shrug emoji. Onwards and upwards. I can start wearing high heels now, so it’s high time I get back to it all!
And today, I did. And it was DELICIOUS. I ate dessert, for breakfast. I am not the biggest sweet tooth in the world, normally preferring savoury over sweet, particularly in the morning for some reason (says the person who, as a teenager, would have Blue Ribbon chocolate ice cream in a cone for breakfast sometimes on school holidays, go figure).
But then I stumbled across this venue (which I’ll write a separate post about, as I killed two amazing birds, one stone today with another 40before40 item) when doing research on café’s in Sydney’s Hills district that a. have great coffee and b. do champagne breakfasts. They’re actually quite hard to find. When I saw the pics of their food, I was blown away. And I just HAD to have the waffles (I never have waffles, ever). But could you say no to this??
From the menu: Belgian waffles w chocolate + peanut butter banana, berries, house made lemon curd, salted caramel, vanilla bean ice cream + fairy floss.
I mean, YUM. Sugar overload, perhaps. But it did come with other fresh fruit too – fig, orange, kiwifruit, passionfruit.
Was it worth it? Oh my goodness, yes – the waffles were reminiscent of doughnuts, perfectly crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. The combination of the flavours divine and somewhat balanced by the fresh fruit which was all incredibly flavoursome too. No cold storage for that fruit. I was in sweets heaven, truly.
So, should you have dessert for breakfast? Yes, yes you should. Where should you have it? ‘The Vintage Pantry Secret Garden’ in Galston, Sydney. When should you go? At your very next breakfast availability. And now let me ask you, will you have dessert for breakfast?
Oh goodness yes please when can I have it? But please don’t tell my Diabetes Councillor.
I am glad to hear that you are now able to kick butt again, I know you have worked very hard over the last four months to get back into those heels, and I also know that in the year of 40 before 40 this was something you did not “kneed”.
I hope that the clot completely disappears too,
Onwards and upwards
